Mount Richon Building Inspections
Dave grew up in Kings Norton South of Birmingham in the United Kingdom. Dave’s parents separated when he was young, leaving his Mother to bring up him his older brother and sister. David started helping his Mother with maintenance around the house, painting, wallpapering and gardening etc. and soon found out that he both enjoyed it and was good at it. After school on the weekends and school holidays, Dave worked part time in a butcher’s shop. Dave impressed the owners of the shop so much with his work ethics that he was offered a traineeship that would eventually lead to managing his own shop. Dave knew that his passion was in building and maintaining things, so declined the offer from the butcher and looked for work where he could develop his passion for building. Soon after leaving school in 1978 Dave was offered an apprenticeship in Shop fitting joinery, Dave jumped at this knowing that this is what he wanted to do and at its highest level.
During his apprenticeship, David trained in various departments, starting in the joinery shop, crafting high end furniture and fixtures for hotels, banks, department stores etc. and into the aluminium shop manufacturing shopfronts and retail fittings. It was the next stage that Dave found where he really wanted to be, on site installing. This meant that Dave was traveling around the country being paid handsomely for what he loved doing. Further training meant that he had to return to Birmingham and into the drawing and estimating departments.
David completed his indentured apprenticeship with AJ Gupwells in 1982. It wasn’t long after, that Dave was running jobs, controlling other trades around him.
In 1984, Dave married the love of his life, Deborah.
Two children and two renovated homes later, Dave decides to become self-employed. Still working within the shop fitting industry, including numerous bar fitouts in West Midlands and surrounding Counties. Dave was approached by individuals requesting that he renovates their private homes. Word of mouth soon had Dave extremely busy.
Dave’s in-law’s retuned from an Australian holiday in 1993, with tales of how much better the life style was in Aus., this got Dave thinking about changes in his family’s life, so started putting the wheels in motion to emigrate down under.
In 1995 at the age of 32 Dave, Deb, Julie- Ann and Christopher came to Australia. Settling in Western Sydney, Dave, armed with his skills soon started work, again in shop fitting for John Waters Industries, Seven Hills. Working on waterside properties for the rich and famous.
In 2002 the family relocated to Perth Western Australia.
Clarke Interiors started Dave off, carrying out shopping centre fitouts. It was whilst working with Kim Mountain from the KMC Group that sent Dave’s career down another path. KMC were commercial builders, involved with the Petroleum industry, building new and extensively renovating service stations. Dave was now getting his hands dirtier with the civil contracting side of the industry, and loving it. Dave was turning paddocks into full on service stations and retail outlets.
A number of employment rolls over the next twelve years took Dave from onsite tradie to Project Coordinator for ICS Australia. Although the work was enjoyable and rewarding, it did involve long hours, either listening to tradies excuses early in the morning, or working on schedules late at night.
At the age of 48 Dave obtained his restricted bike licence, twelve months later his un restricted licence, and bought a cruiser. Like most boy’s toys it sat in the garage because Dave was too busy with work commitments. It wasn’t until Dave and Deb were told that their Daughter was expecting their first Grandchild that Dave realised this life style has to change. Over the last 38 years working in the UK, NSW and WA, work life balance did not exist. That is until he spotted an ad for Perth based Building Inspectors operating under the Jim’s Franchising Group.
Now operating as a Jim’s Building Inspector Franchisee in the Armadale area, it gives Dave and Deb the opportunity to take off on the motorbike and enjoy the beautiful West Australian coast and country side, not forgetting spending quality time with their newly arrived Grandson Oliver David.
One of Dave and Debs goals over the next year or so is to tour the Canadian Rockies on a Harley.
Dave’s aim in business is to keep on providing Honest Professional and Comprehensive property reports to owners and prospective owners, so that they can make informed decisions relating to Building, Purchase and maintenance issues.
